Today's presentation was done by Dr. Antonio Montemurro, DPM  on "Minimally Invasive Bunionectomy"
It is less invasive, less scarring and less recovery time now with bunion surgery.
Minimally Invasive Bunion Plating System (MIB) is a triplanar hallux valgus correction procedure. To do this procedure they first identify if you are a good candidate for it based on the severity of your bunion. They range from Mild to Severe. The MIB system has locking screws on the plate which allow patients to walk the same exact day of the surgery. Post-op they have seen most patients can walk the same day, are in a walking boot for 4 weeks, no need for Physical Therapy, and recommend taking off of work 4-6 weeks (but in some cases this isn't necessary). Improper footwear could cause bunions.  You can't cure bunions but you can treat and stop progression.
