SEARGANT AT ARMS: Substitute Sgt. Peckus levied a $2 fine on anyone not wearing their Rotary pin. He then spun the wheel on four lucky contestants: Peterson and Walsh won the right to pay $10, Frost has to wear something red next week or pay $10 and Seymour had to introduce himself to the senior club member or pay $10 (he choose to do both).
INTERESTING READING?: Rotary International’s semi annual finance report is available to all members on-line at www.rotary.org. Anyone that is willing to give the rest of us a report on the contents is invited to do so.
LOOK FOR IT: SIGN-UP SHEETS TO WORK THE AUCTION ON FEB. 12TH AND 19TH WILL BE OUT AT NEXT WEEK’S MEETING. PLEASE SIGN UP FOR THE DAY(S) YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK (IT COUNTS AS A MAKE-UP) THAT WAY YOU WON’T GET “ASSIGNED” TO A TIME YOU DON’T WANT!
BOOKS OF THE WORLD: Peckus reported that the Kenosha Public Library will be having their next book sale Feb. 17 – Feb. 19. Unsold books will be donated to the Books of the World project and we will be picking them up on Monday, February 20th. Rolly needs a lot of help with this as there most likely will be a large volume of books. Please contact him with your availability.
SPELLING BEE: Peckus reports that we now have all the volunteers we need to support the Spelling Bee this year. The number of people volunteering is excellent as we have two extra people for fill-ins. Thank you to all club members that volunteered to help out!
***AUCTION***: There is a huge need to get going on the collection of items needed for the Annual Rotary Radio Auction. This is the main event that helps us to help others in this community. If you are not aware of what we need and why please talk to your sponsor, a fellow Rotarian, or a board member. We need to knock on some doors to keep this event alive and well. There are a lot of people counting on us for support.
1/3/12 – We have now added two new hourly sponsors, Snap-On Tools and Knight-Barry Title. There are still seven hourly sponsor spots available.
RECOGNITIONS: The club continues to look for nominations for the Rotarian and Non-Rotarian recognition awards. Forms are available at the meeting. Please take a look and nominate someone.
PROJECT 100: Molinaro asked that members continue to consider donations to our club’s “Project 100”. The hope is that our club can take on a large project worthy of our 100th anniversary as a club. If you have any project suggestions please feel free to contact Mark.
CLUB WEBSITE: Please remember to login and take a look at our club website (www.kenosharotary.org). There are lots of great things there to see with a lot of excellent information! This includes the recognition forms that all members are encouraged to print out and use. Len Iaquinta would like to get photos of all new members along with members that do not have a photo yet posted on the website.
JANUARY BIRTHDAYS: Greg Broerman (4), Jeff Valeri (7), Rachael Proko (16), Scott Larsen (18), Gil Dosemagen (21), Roseanne Apyan (25), and Stan Hall (29).
TODAY’S PROGRAM
Liz Snyder introduced today’s speaker, Amanda Angrove. Amanda is the Executive Director of Safe Harbor Humane Society in Kenosha (formerly known as the Kenosha County Humane Society). She has been in this position for about one and a half years. The Society takes in animals that are lost, abandoned, strays or abused in Kenosha County. They have contracts with all the municipalities in the county. Each year they take in around 3,800 animals. They try to find them new and loving homes. They are considered an open admission facility and due to space constraints they sometimes have to euthanize animals. This decision is based upon age, health and temperament.
Approximately 80% of their annual budget is covered by the contracts they have with the municipalities. The balance they have to make up with fees and donations. They are always looking for volunteers to help them with various tasks, including the events they hold throughout the year. They also accept donations of animal food, toys, cages, crates, etc. More information can be found on their website: www.safehaborhumane.com.
One way that people can help immediately is by attending the all-you-can-eat “Spayghetti” Dinner that will be held this Sunday, January 29th, at the Moose Club Lodge from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Editors of “The Rotator” for 2011 – 2012 are Tom Frost, Vic Weiler and Judy Rossow.
