GUIDELINES FOR AWARDING GIFTS & GRANTS
KENOSHA ROTARY FOUNDATION
These guidelines are drawn as part of the Foundation by-laws to aid the Board and screening committee in fairly awarding grants consistent with the charter and by-Laws of the Kenosha Rotary Foundation, Inc.
1. All grants must 100% directly benefit Kenosha County Residents.
2. All grants should be to only non-profit groups, agencies and organizations, but may include governmental units; without paid per-diem or reimbursed boards and commissions, and if a paid staff, not paid with grant monies.
3. If an individual is considered, he or she must first be determined to be unique in his or her oneness, and the grant would not specifically be considered a scholarship.
4. Only existing groups, agencies or organizations can be considered, with no consideration of purely political or religious organizations.
5. An IRS letter of status must be filed.
6. Our Foundation application and supporting schedules must be filed.
7. Grants should be only awarded for non-operating, non-recurring projects of less than one-year activity that is not generally funded from other sources.
8. Grants should be in writing and be accompanied by a cover letter stating the:
A. basic project description
B. explanation of the need or problem
C. objective of the project
D. means of achieving the goal
E. method of evaluating the effectiveness of the project
F. segment of the population to be benefited
G. management of the project
H. duration of the project.
9. Applications will be received by the secretary prior to April 15th annually.
10. A screening committee will review each proper application and assign a priority (e.g., A, B, C, or D) to the project, referring it to the Board by May 30th annually.
11. The Board will review projects and priorities assigned and grant awards by June 30 annually, withholding 10% of funds available and a sum sufficient to cover anticipated auction expenses for the next year.
12. No one grant shall exceed 33% of the total amount to be awarded.
13. Acceptance of the grant shall imply an evaluation and project follow-up as determined by the Kenosha Rotary Foundation with special emphasis on public acceptance of the group and project.
14. No distribution to or direct benefit of Rotary members, officers, directors, trustees or families of the Foundation shall be made.
